Artificial intelligence is not only impacting the job force but affecting our daily lives. In today's society you could even turn the lights on in your house from your phone or find out what the weather is by simply asking "Siri" or "Alexa", showing just how powerful computer software is. The book, Surfing the Tsunami, gives a good perspective on how some people feel about AI and it's future. "The optimist view is that for society, for the large part, artificial intelligence will lead to a large number of life changing discoveries and tools, which will help us to be safer and more productive" (Kelsey 40).
Automation and AI:
When it comes to artificial intelligence, robots have allowed a lot of process to be automated, with the major one being manufacturing. Today robots are being used more often to build and assemble products, making the production process safer and faster. Artificial Intelligence has even allowed self-driving cars to come into play with more and more companies like Uber and Google experimenting with self-driving cars. Another example of automation that exists are those emails you receive when you shop online, add items to your bag, and don't complete the whole checkout expereince. You may receive an email, reminding you to complete your purchase and may be sent a coupon to increase your chances of completing your order, which is all part of AI and automation. Automation is also allowing virtual processes like processing data and making calculations to be easily done through programs like Excel.
Well automation is allowing more processes to be done, it is also affecting the job market and how things are run at stores. Today, Walmart along with other major stores and fast food restaurants are experimenting more and more with kiosks and what they can do, which is decreasing the need for cashiers. Below is an interesting quote I found from reading this article on Walmart and what it is currently doing in regards to automation, which can be found by clicking here.
The main idea is that automation is affecting our world each and every day and it is important to learn about AI and how it could affect our future.
