Week 5- Facebook Ads

Facebook has come a long way since the time it first came out in 2004. Besides being a social platform for people to interact with each other, it is also a place for businesses to reach more people and promote their products and services. As social media continues to rise, businesses understand the importance of having ads placed on popular apps like Facebook. Ads are a great way to reach more customers, and one thing to note about Facebook is that anyone can create an ad to share their work, not just big businesses and companies. Ads serve a big purpose and Facebook is making it easier for more people to reach a bigger customer base by allowing users to easily create their own ads or campaign.

What you should know about Facebook Ads:

Facebook ads are normally used to get people to like your page but they can also be used to lead customers to another website. One thing to keep in mind is that most of the people that use Facebook are there to interact with friends and family but that doesn't mean they won't be tempted to buy your product or visit your page if they see your ad. The book, Introduction to Social Media Marketing provides a great explanation of what Facebook ads are good for. "If you or your client has the goal of "increasing likes," then a Facebook ad is a good way to get a social media presence established" (Kelsey 56).  Anyone can use Facebook ads, but the main idea behind placing an ad on Facebook is to get more people to see your page and like it.

One thing to note about Facebook ads is that how they appear varies depending on how the user is accessing Facebook. Facebook ads normally appear in newsfeeds like the image shown below, but can also be displayed on the right side of the screen if Facebook is accessed on a computer instead of a mobile device.

Helpful Tips:

1. Have Target Audiences: Different ads appeal to different types of people and it is important to find the best type of ad to reach more people. One important thing to remember is that you may need several different ads for each of your target audiences depending on what they like and what their interests are.

2. Track your progress: Facebook allows you to keep track of your ads and see how well they are performing by giving you important information. You can see how many people clicked on your ad as well as how many people your ad was displayed too. Paying attention to this information is important because it can show you if your ad is working well or needs to be updated.

3. Create a unique ad: Facebook allows you to be creative by allowing you to chose what images you want in your ad as well as what text you want to display. You want your ad to stand out, so remember to think of something fun to say that will make people want to click on your ad and view your page or website.

4. Plan your budget: Ads aren't free but Facebook offers a few different ways to pay for your ads. You can either choose to pay based on quantity or pay based on how many clicks your ad gets. A cool benefit about having an ad Facebook is that you can set a start and end date for your ad and chose a certain amount to pay each day or set a lifetime budget to pay for the whole duration of the ad. You can choose a suggested amount or type your own, making it perfect for any budget.
