Week 7: SEO and PPC

Search Engine optimization involves looking at your content and finding creative ways to get the most people to your website. SEO is a big part of digital marketing because it involves researching your target audience and seeing what can be done to make the content on your website stand out to more people. While SEO is important to businesses because it focuses on creating quality content, PPC is also helpful to businesses because it focuses on getting more clicks per ad.

What is PPC and what are the benefits?

PPC is pay per click, and basically means that advertisers pay a fee whenever someone clicks on their ad. PPC is different from SEO in the sense that with PPC, marketers are paying for clicks while with SEO markers attempt to earn more clicks organically through creative content and other means.  While both are important to digital marketing. it is important to look at some of the ways PPC benefits advertisers because often times, paid ads are the ones that most people will see. Whenever you do a Google search, the first ads you see are paid advertisements and when people are looking for fast results, they are more likely to click on the first ad they see rather than scrolling through a bunch of results, which is a major benefit to paying for clicks. Below is an example of Google search I did for mascara, and you can see that the first results that show up are paid ads showing their prices and promotions which shows how beneficial paid ads can be in terms of getting the most clicks.

So besides getting your ad on the top page of search results, ppc also focuses on creating ads with images which is something that SEO doesn't really focus on. With the example above, you can see that having an image in your ad makes it more appealing and is more attractive than ads that just have words. Although PPC can get costly, you can easily set up a daily spending budget to ensure you are spending too much on improving your ads rank. The main idea to keep in mind is that although PPC and SEO focus on different things, both of them are important to implement because they both focus on getting more customers to see your ad and website.
